Incoming Students

Student accommodations for Placement Exams, A&R Days and New Student Events

Students who need accommodations for the math placement exam, A&R Day, convocation, or other new student events, should complete a New Student Activity & Event Accommodation Form at least two weeks prior to the event or their exam.

Note: In order to receive academic year accommodations at Missouri S&T, students will need to complete the accommodation request process outlined below. We encourage you to complete this process prior to your first semester on campus and to meet virtually with an accommodation advisor so that accommodations can be set up before you arrive on campus to start classes.

Accommodations and Connecting with Student Accessibility and Testing

Student Accessibility and Testing (SAT) encourages incoming Missouri S&T students with disabilities to complete the accommodation request process prior to their first semester on campus.

The accommodation request process involves three steps: complete an application in MinerAccess, provide disability documentation, and participate in an intake meeting with an accommodation advisor. Further information about the accommodation request process is found here. After completing an application, watch you S&T email for follow-up communications from Student Accessibility and Testing.

Incoming students may request academic year accommodations when they receive their Missouri S&T username and password. The username and password are used to sign into MinerAccess to complete the accommodation application.

As part of your application, you will be asked to submit third-party documentation of your disability. This documentation should be from a qualified professional outside the University. It should include your diagnosis and a description of how you are impacted by your disability. If you would like to meet with an accommodations advisor before submitting your documentation, please schedule an appointment by contacting Student Accessibility and Testing at dss@mst.edu or (573) 341-6655.

While third-party documentation may be sufficient to establish the presence of a disability, documentation alone does not establish whether accommodations are reasonable. Documentation is taken into consideration but is not the definitive information used to make our final decisions. We consider multiple factors when exploring reasonable accommodations. An accommodation recommendation from a provider does not automatically bind Student Accessibility and Testing to approve and facilitate the accommodation.

Documentation Guidelines

When your application and documentation have been received, a request to schedule an intake appointment will be sent to your Missouri S&T email address. Student Accessibility and Testing engages in an individualized, interactive process with each student requesting accommodations. During the intake interview, you and the accommodation advisor will discuss your disability, its impact, and appropriate accommodations.

To help with completing accommodation requests before you arrive on campus, SAT offers in-person as well as virtual appointments. Contact dss@mst.edu or 573-341-6655 with any questions or to schedule an appointment.

Following your intake interview, you will be emailed a determination letter. This letter will describe your accommodation eligibility status and outline the next steps.

Questions or Concerns

If you have any questions or concerns at any point in this process, an Accommodation Advisor would be happy to talk with you. Contact SAT at dss@mst.edu or (573) 341-6655 to schedule an appointment.
